Category: the Rant Board
you know, the more and more i hear of medical malpractice, or neglegent doctors, or doctors that prescribe drugs to patients who dont actually need them or doctors who overprescribe, it pushes me more and more away from conventional medicine. i have never had this problem with naturopathic doctors. hmmm, makes u think... conventional md's have $ signs flashing in their heads. i have used naturopathy and guess what? my immune system is strong as it can be. it took me 2 days to get over a cold back in june. i had a fever with it which is perfectly natural and should not be broken unless it reaches a high temperature. and u know what? when i took medicine with this recent cold that i had, it took me 3 times longer to get over it than it took me to get over the cold back in june.
Perhaps I should look at holistic medicine, instead of doctors. After the hell I went through before my eye problem was diagnosed back in 2005, (as well as the decision to remove it), I'm bothered by medicine, sometimes. This is especially the case with childbirth. Keep your mind opened to the possibility of needing a hospital, but if you've had a normal pregnancy, and your doctor supports the use of a midwife, you don't need to be hooked up to monitors and given a shot of pain-relieving medication. Women in my family have been having babies naturally for as long as I can remember, so I'm not going to break that by using conventional medicine, unless my life, or that of my child, is in danger. IF they can do it, I can.
very true tonx. very good points.
oh and i support home births and things like that as well. however, my husband says absolutely no home birthing for me.
and as far as the eye problems r concerned, what should i do. my eye is thickly calcified over and extremely painful. they do not want to remove the calcium because they r afraid of damaging my eye further. the eye doctors put me on 3 kinds of drops, nevinac was the first one that i was put on, and i am currently on pred forte and atropine to help with the paine. these drops r not working. so should i get the eye removed, or see if holistic medicine can take care of it? what would be your suggestion in this situation? i think this post should probably be on the health and wellness board lol.
Yeah, I think it should be too. And, I'm sure your husband would respect your decision to do a home birth if you were to present him with cases in which it's worked for other people. Google it and see what you come up with. as for your eye, i'm not a doctor, so I can't exactly tell you what to do. Eye removal's really the only thing u can do to ease pain permanently. Drops will only bring temporary relief.
drops dont do anything for me at all. oh and, i came across your reply on the health and wellness board. u said that that list that i posted was crap. i admit i should have found a better one, but that was just an example. but it is true that most everyone has anxiety or hyperactivity or something. that does not mean that it should be classified as a disorder to be treated with drugs. its just human experience is all even though somepeople have anxiety or hyperactivity that is more severe than other peoples.
I accidentally hit report problems, so I hope that won't effect anything, sorry.
Anyway, aside from the event of an emergency situation or an opperation, the only synthetic medicine I agree with highly is birth control. But even there, I'm on the minipill (projestin-only pill) to minimise side effects and am thinkng of going on the Mirena IUD. Other than that, I occasionally take Adville and less often, Mydol, but I'm trying to use less of both and look for alternatives. I've even switched from Tylanol PM to an herbal formula, but will have to ask Mom the name of it. I actually got it as a sample and am loving it. The only thing that really annoys me is my headaches and eye pain. I'll get these headaches sometimes on the top of my forhead, above my nose, on my temples or in the back of my head and my eyes will feel like someone's poking them hard with a finger or other object. My eye doctor (conventional) said there was nothing wrong with them other than dry eye. So I don't know wht's going on.
oooooh not cool tiff. maybe you should go to another eye doctor? i am going to bascom palmer eye institute here in florida. they are actually one of the best eye care phacilities in all of the united states. the doctor said that my eye should have come out a long time ago. i had 2 surgeries on this particular eye. the doctor said that the doctors who did surgeries on this eye did not know what they were doing because doing surgery on a blind eye will cause further complications. and he is right. the surgeries did cause more complications. so now i am going back on the 19th of january to discuss my surgical options to get the eye removed because nothing is helping it.
Well, my pressure is fine (never had a problem with it), everything else checked out. I'm a total due to a retina detachment, so it's not a disease and I tested negative for glocoma. I still think it's me being really tired, but yeah. I hope that pain stays far far away. It's enough to drive me crazy!
its not because oof glaucoma with me either. i have a tube in my eye to drain the pressure away. i have had it for 2 years and ever since i have gotten it, my eye has been very painful. i think it is because of the tube, as well as all of the calcium on my eye.
Somanea, I agree that traditional medical practice is bullshit...but I'm not so sure about home births.
home birthing is very safe if you are at low risk. oh and btw, what do u mean traditional medicine? do u mean herbal or holistic medicine? or the modern medical practices with all of the drugs.
I mean all of the drugs.
ah ok. ya it is bull shit. this is y i avoid them as much as possible.
I never take pills. However, I do take vitamins.
Vitamins are very good, provided they're all natural and not the majorly commercialised stuff that's full of who knows what and of bad quality to boot. I'm actually on a vitamin recommended by my trusted friend at the healthfood store. It's called Female Multiple Solgar, and it's been around since 1947. It's an all herbal formula and wow has it given me energy and believe it or not, it got rid of those horrific headaches and eye aches! Gods bless that man!
oh wow. an herbal vitamin sounds good. i purchased a prenaital vitamin from walmart to help with healthy hair and nails. should i go off of it? or get an herbal one instead.
I'd wouldn't say go off them, unless you see problems etc or are told to do so, but I do say go herbal. It's safer and more effective. A good places for these is

Also, check your GNC or local healthfood place. I can't tell you which brand is the best, so you'll have to do a little researching. Also, if you can work with them, liquid vitamins are the best for any kind of vitamin. I personally have never tried them and think they'd be a bit to inaccessible for me, but if you can do it, all the best to you. If not, then at least these aren't synthetic.
thanks tiff. i have been doing ok on these. i just started taking them about 3 days ago after 3 friends recommended that i start taking them if i want to keep my hair healthier and to grow it longer. just the other day, i had 3 inches cut off of it due to split ends. that made me upset because now my hair is not down to the middle of my back, but at least it can grow healthy now.
